Prologue

Darkness engulfed the surroundings as I lingered my eyes around with my lips quivering in fright. I was shaken out of my slumber when the thunder roared outside, causing me to sprung from the bed and halted. Laying on the cold floor as my heart hammered continuously, I brought my knees closer and rocked back and forth. The gust of wind had swept inside the open window, with the curtains dancing along with them as it sent a shiver through my spine. My teeth were bared, my eyes felt as though it was bulging out of the sockets, and tears had begun to stream down my cheeks. The only light that filtered inside the vicinity was the full moon that shone brighter than I last encountered it.

This had been the feeling I'd grown familiar with every time the full moon would rise. The fleeting anxiety that brought me nausea and the vigorous wind that forced itself inside that would suffocate me. Despite the breeze that made its way into my room, sweat still trickled down to my forehead from the heat that was starting to surge in. All I could do was steady my breathing to get rid of the terror and heaviness in my chest, though I highly doubt this would calm the chaos clouding my head.

Flicking my eyes to my side where the drawer of the nightstand was placed, I hastily pulled it open and grabbed the pills. I shoved it in my mouth, reaching for the glass near the lamp, before swallowing the last drops of water. As the thunderstorm continued to blare outside, I placed the glass on the nightstand and leaned my back against the edge of the bed in defeat. Once I let the pill hit me, I threw my head back, shutting my eyes close and eased my mind.

"You're gonna be fine," I whispered to myself in assurance, as my chest rose and fell from every deep breath that I took. "No one's gonna hurt you. You're safe and you're far from them."

But no matter how hard I tried to convince myself that this was just all in my head, the anxiety just ate me up and overtook my thoughts.

This had been happening to me every time the full moon would rise. I had always anticipated this occurrence no matter how foreboding it felt. I guess this was just inevitable. It worsened my illness and it would be haunting me for the rest of my life. The emotional trauma I had to overcome after my parents' death was nightmarish, and I never thought that I got to live with the sorrow that tragedy gave me. I had been hoping that someday, somehow, the voices that screamed in my head would diminish along with the grief that I brought up to this day.

I almost sprung from my seat when the roar of the thunder pierced in my ears. Fluttering my eyes open, I looked back to the opened window, only to notice a silhouette of an inhuman creature that appeared on the curtain. Sucking in a breath, I covered my mouth with my hand to suppress my whimper and moved back to the wall once I realized what that creature was.

They were back. They would also come after me like what they did to my parents. They would hunt me like uneaten prey, and they wouldn't stop until their hunger subsided. I knew this was coming, and I couldn't do anything to stop it. They were monstrous creatures, ready to devour every human they would encounter once they craved for their flesh. And when they had a piece of leftover meal that had to be finished up, they wouldn't hesitate to kill.
