I don't know my name or where I come from. Not my parents or if I have siblings. Grandparents, aunts or uncles? I just don't know.
I've been wandering the woods for hours, maybe half a day. I can't be sure.
It was light when I found myself floating at the water's edge, cold to the bone as the sun set in the sky beside me.
I don't remember how I got here, but I knew I had to move to find shelter. Something inside me sensed danger near, but I don't know what that something was, a small voice that sounded familiar talking in the back of my mind.
Get up, walk.
You need to find shelter before they come.
That's it. You're walking the right way.
The voice encouraged me as I walked towards the setting sun.
That's how I found myself at the edge of the trees near a small house. The woman looked at me as if I was about to kill her. I didn't move, and neither did she, until a group of men dressed only in shorts arrived in a truck, confusing me because she hadn't moved to contact anyone.
I decide there must be someone inside, my eyes flicking to every window I can see.
One man, the tallest and broadest, set his eyes on me. He has deep black hair, bright green eyes, tattoos, and muscles for days.
I couldn't help but swallow, that small voice saying one word over and over again.
Mine, mine, mine.
What did it mean? I don't know.
He walks out of the middle of the group towards me, his eyes taking me in. My face, my neck, slowly over my body, then back to my neck.
"Hello," he says in the most resounding voice.
"Hi," my word comes out, barely a breath, but he seems to hear me.
"What are you doing on my land?" He asks as the other men surround me. That voice stops shouting mine and started crying danger, but I push it away. I'm too cold and in pain not to ask for help.
"I woke up in the river," I whisper, listening to the two identical burly men that have moved to stand behind me. The twigs break under their feet as they settle in one place behind me.
"What's your name?" The man asks, grabbing my attention back to him.
"I... I can't remember," I admit.
He walks closer to me, holding out his hand to me. I leave it hanging between us, not reaching my own out to hold his.
"Let me help you. I'll take you to our pack doctor," he says, the smile never faltering off his face.
It takes me a few minutes to decide, but I reach out tentatively, grabbing ahold of his hand. He gasps, pulling me towards him. My chest crushes to his front as he bends to sweep me off my feet. He shocks me as he smells my neck before pulling back to walk me to the truck keeping his eyes forward.
"My name is Alpha Theo. You're safe now, little one."
Theo's POV
'Alpha, Alpha, there's a strange girl behind my house,' Ellen shouts through the mind link, panicked.
'Is she threatening you?' I asked, jumping up from my desk as I mind link my gamma and beta, Lucas and Aaron, to meet me down at the truck.
'No, Alpha, she's just staring. She looks cold and confused. Should I help her?' she tells me as I run outside to get into the truck with the others.
'Don't approach her. Keep your distance,' I warn as we start driving. I keep the mind link open, waiting for Ellen to tell me if anything happens or goes wrong, but she says nothing keeping quiet.
"How didn't you feel a stranger walking onto our land," Lucas asks, and I can't do much but roll my shoulder.
"I haven't felt anything," I admit as we pull down the small driveway to Ellen's and Gray's small house at the edge of our pack land. Gray was my father's beta who decided to retire when my father did, so we gave them their own home out here for peace and tranquillity.
We pull into the driveway and jump out of the truck, my warriors immediately spacing out to surround the lone blonde that stands stock still at the edge of the forest, just how they've been trained.
She's soaked through, her clothes clinging to every surface of her body, cuts and bruises mark the skin that's on show, and her eyes look wild and scared.
"Hello."
"Hi," her word comes out hushed. If I didn't have super hearing, I would have missed it.
"What are you doing on my land?" I ask as Mason and Andy finally walk behind her, her eyes spread wide with fear as she hears the sticks and twigs crushing beneath their feet.
"I woke up in the river," She whispers.
"What's your name?" I ask, taking four steps closer as she listens behind her. Oh, her smell is delicious.
"I... I can't remember," she states sadly.
I hold out my hand, walking closer. If she decided to move, I could grab her quickly, but I leave my hand between us, a peace offering as such.
"Let me help you. I'll take you to our pack doctor," I say with a confident smile on my face. She smells divine. Apples, cinnamon and spice.
It takes her longer than I'd like for her to make her mind up, but eventually, she reaches her small delicate hand to hover above mine, I reach the rest of the way up, making contact, and I gasp. Her memories flood my mind, but I push away all the others to concentrate on her most recent ones.
Running, running out of fear as she whips in between trees crying. Her heart racing as she looks behind her and slips, hitting her head on a rock in the water.
She wakes in a river, my river on my land and wanders for hours, the sun moving in the sky as an indication of time moving.
Rex wakes up inside me as he smells her when I bend to pick her up, my nose settling above the place she will one day be marked.
Mate, mate. He screams at me, but I had already guessed as much.
"My name is Alpha Theo. You're safe now, little one," I promise her.
