01 Betrayal
James.
"Ready the troops so we can advance," I told Dwayne, my delta. My brother, Paul, was still yet to arrive at the base. We have had peace for a while now until Alpha Caspian of Geneva decided that he wanted to monopolise the trade of bitumen. Our father warned us never to underestimate a foe, but Paul and I did not think he could do much. The only reason the bastard had attacked Eastwood and put it under his control was that he had help from somewhere.
My sister Chloe was locked up, and it was unfortunate that she could work against Paul and me. I never mistreated her, and I gave her the respect she was due. Father wanted to give her the position, but my mark began to burn, and the rest was history. She was excellent at being the Alpha of Eastwood. It held most of our resources and shipping companies. I still wondered what had changed that made her work against me.
I sat on a chair in the base and bowed my head. How could my world crumble fast? This was where I needed my mother's advice, but Alpha Caspian had her and my father in captivity. They had stupidly tried to help a friend defend his territory and fell along with it. The bastard wanted to use them in exchange for the entire Woodclaw Island, but it wasn't mine to give. I was just their Alpha. After the fall of Eastwood, my people and family came together and requested we fight back. There was no guarantee that we would win this fight because Alpha Caspian had all the ammunition on his side. He had planned it well, and I knew he had help. Someone gave him the blueprint to clean out all our arsenals. Someone from within.
I got up, knowing Paul and William were held up somewhere and decided to visit my sister Chloe in prison. I needed to understand her betrayal.
"Alpha," Dwayne said, and I smiled at him.
"I am okay, Dwayne. I just want to visit the prison." I told him, and he nodded in understanding. Chloe was his best friend, and her betrayal had come as a shock to him. It hit him the most because he loved her. He wasn't over her, and I doubted if he ever would. We were all saddened by what she had done. Our stepgrandmother had cried the most and pleaded with us to go easy on her, but the evidence against her was damning, and we could not appear to be partial to the entire Island. Something had to give. Usually, the punishment for treason is death, but I could not bring myself to kill my twin, so I locked her up. Paul was the eldest, and he was affected the most by it. She was his favourite sibling, and even as my Beta, he still preferred her to me.
I quickly rushed out of the base and entered the car waiting to take me to the prison section. I needed to understand how Chloe was stupid enough to work against me and fall under Caspian.
I arrived at the prison and saw Paul exiting the building. My heart broke for him. He had two people locked up there that would never see the light of day; our sister and his birth mother. He seemed to be handling it well, and I admired him for it, but I remained on the alert that it might break him one day.
Paul and I crossed paths, and he smiled at me.
"Here to see your twin?" He asked me with a smile, and I nodded. Paul was an awesome big brother. We did not share the same mother biologically, but we were siblings, and he looked out for us the best way he could.
"Do you want me to come with you?" he asked, noticing I was nervous about seeing my sister, and I nodded. He smiled and followed me back in.
We were led to a waiting room. Chloe was kept in a private room in prison, and I learned Paul had moved his mother to something similar. I allowed it; it wasn't too much to ask for, and I could understand his sentiments toward her.
Chloe was ushered in by the ward, bound in silver. The light had left her brown eyes, and she looked older than she was. She also looked depressed and sad.
Paul went to hug her, and she hugged him back. I dared not approach her because she hated me.
"Came to gloat?" She asked me, and I shook my head. I was fighting back my tears.
"I need you to redeem yourself, Chloe," I said, and she began to laugh.
"You never believe a word I say," she shot at me, and I shook my head.
"Caspian cleaned us out, Chloe, and everything led to you as their inside person. How was I unfair? It wasn't my fault that my mark burned. I would have gladly given you the Alpha position." I told her my truth and she shook her head.
"I did not work with Caspian. Yes, I was mad at a certain decision you made against me because of that whore you cheated on Emily with, but I never sold us out." She said.
"I never cheated on your friend. I ended things with Emily. Why couldn't you just accept that and not try to force your friend on me, Chloe? This has nothing to do with that. The investigations show you gave Caspian the blueprint to clean us out,"
"Have you asked David?" She asked me, and I knew what I was about to tell her would hurt her.
"Your husband is missing Chloe. He went missing when Eastwood fell." I said, and her eyes widened with surprise and horror. Was she not watching the news in her cell? Did she not wonder why he did not come to visit her?
"Eastwood has fallen? That is why I haven't seen David?" She asked, and I nodded.
"Caspian cleaned us out. Eastwood is currently under his control, and mom and dad are his prisoners. He took them when he conquered the Alpha of Santa Braee." I said, and tears began to stream down her face.
I stood up and walked to her.
"Please, Chloe, Please. A lot is at stake; I need to know everything you know about Caspian." I said, and she shook her head.
"Please, Chloe," Paul pleaded with her.
"I swear I am not close to him, I met him a couple of times, but I did not plan anything with him or give him any information. I did not like him." She said, and I knew she was telling the truth.
"Then how was he able to frame you as his accomplice?" I asked her, and I could see the fatigue in her eyes. It was a question that she must have asked severally.
It wasn't long before my phone began to ring. I opened it and saw it was Dwayne. It must be important, so I answered it immediately.
"James, Caspian sent you a message on the news. It is terrible." He said, and I froze. Thinking of all the terrible things Caspian could do. He had my parents. Had he executed them? Were my grandparents in danger?
"What is it about?" I asked him, afraid of the suspense.
"It is about Olivia," He said, and I froze. Everything became distant at that moment. I was still yet to tell her I loved her, and I wasn't going through with my marriage to Emily. What does Caspian have on Olivia?
I hung up and requested a television that had the news on it. I left Chloe with Paul and went to watch the news in the television room. I did not know what to expect.
The moment the news channel came on, it showed Olivia standing next to Caspian in an empty room. Her eyes were uncertain. I could not read her expression. I did not know if it were by her will or not.
"Greetings James Moon. As you know by now, I always win. I am willing to hold on to Eastwood and not attack your Island anymore. To show my good fate and intentions, I am inviting you to my wedding which will take place in Eastwood. My luna and I will be living there. Remember, your parents are in my custody, and they will remain so until you pose no threat to me," he said, pulled Olivia close, and kissed her on her lips.
I felt betrayed watching her return the kiss. A daughter of a prostitute and a pimp could never be trusted. I felt rage rise in me, and my mark began to burn. Olivia was the traitor. She had sold us out by going to be with my enemy. I had broken off my engagement to Emily just to be with her, and she had fucked over my life. Was she the one that sold us out? Was she the reason why I had to lock my sister up? Was she his mole? After all, she had come to Woodclaw from Geneva. Although she claimed her folks were from Dome, she lived and grew up in Geneva. I had let my guard down for the enemy and had messed myself up completely. How could I have been so stupid to fall for the enemy's mole? Why wasn't I on my guard? The questions were still reeling in my mind when my phone rang. I looked to see who it was, and I could not believe that Olivia would have the nerve to call me after this. I knew it was in my best interest to answer the call, and I did so quickly.
"Hello," I heard her voice. Was she crying?
"I am sorry, James, but I had no choice," she said in tears, and I could not believe a word she said.
"It is Alpha Moon to you," I said, and she was silent.
"What do you want?" I asked coldly.
"I wanted to hear your voice one last time," she said. "Know that I did everything for you," she added, and I got angry.
"You sold me out, Olivia. You betrayed me! I cursed the day Paul and I met you at the park. Our lives were simple then, but my brother had to bring you home. My sister is behind bars because of you. My parents are under your mate's captivity. I hate you, Olivia. If I ever see you, I will eliminate you." I said, and she protested.
"I didn't.." She began, but I could not listen to her lies. Her voice hurt, and her name had started to hurt. There was nothing to say to her. I hung up and walked out of the television room. Based on the announcement, there will be no war again. It was time to go and restrategise. It was time to release my sister. We needed to plan how to get back my sister's pack from Caspian and save our parents. My heart was closed off to Olivia, and I meant what I said. If I ever see her, I will end her.
