Lets Go To The Club

*****Keira's POV****

I shivered frightfully as the loud growl-like sound of my boss echoed in the room.

“How long! Just how long do you plan to be useless in my company? You think I run a charity home with my company?!” He thundered, making my lips quiver with fear.

“I… I'm sorry, boss,”

“Sorry? I would rather not hear your stupid apology. That is what you've been saying for six months now.”

I stared down nervously. I could see the staff in the company all staring at my boss's office since it was a transparent glass.

I wish I knew what to do at this very moment. I wish there was something I could say at this moment.

“You know what, Keira, I don't think you are fit to work in my company anymore. I want you gone! Never show your face in front of me again!”

At the mention of that, I quickly fell on my knees, shakily, with tears in my eyes.

“Please, Boss Jake, do not lay me off, I beg you,” I pleaded while staring up at him.

Boss Jake took his gaze down at me, I could see anger written all over his face.

“Keira, don't you know just how many times you've gone on your knees to ask me to give you more chances?”

“I know, boss, but I promise you that there's going to be a change this time. I truly promise.”

“Well, guess what? I'm fed up with your pleas that I don't even want to see you around my company, got that?”

“One month!” I said at once.

“Just give me one month, and I promise to bring you exclusive news.”

Mr. Jake stared at me weirdly.

“One month?” He asked, just to be sure.

At that moment, I just realized that I had gone nuts. Did I just say that?

“Keira, is that what you just said?” Mr. Jake asked again. I wish I could scream out loud at that very moment, but I ended up nodding in response. And backed it up with a promise.

“I'll be sure to bring you an exclusive interview, I promise?”

“This is a huge promise, Keira. But I'm tempted to take it up.”

I lowered my gaze and breathed a huge sigh of relief.

“But what happens when you cannot keep up with this one month of promise?”

That question immediately sent my heart racing all over again.

“If…if I can't make it, then I'll leave quietly,” I uttered the words with great pains.

“Wow! This is the first time you are finally making such a brave decision for yourself. Then, I guess I'll have to wait patiently and see exactly what you can do within this one month,” Mr Jake replied with an evil smile spread across his face.

For some reason, I don't feel comfortable seeing him smile that way. But then, I stood up from the floor and left his office as quickly as I could.

**Evening Time****

“You did what?!” Elena asked, wide-eyed.

“Put your voice down, Elena, I'm miserable as it is. Please don't make me look for a lagoon to jump in.”

“Goodness! I know it's hard to get an exclusive interview from a celebrity these days, but Keira, don't you think promising to get an interview within one month is just too much?”

I raised my gaze up to my friend. Tears stung my eyes as I stared at her helplessly.

“Elena, you have no idea just how much I want to strangle myself right now. I mean, it's bad enough that I'm ill-fated, and now, I'm going to lose the only job I've been able to secure all these years. Don't you think I must have been cursed with perpetual unhappiness by the moon goddess?”

“What the hell are you talking about now, Keira? This isn't the end of the world. I'm sure there will be a way out of this.”

Currently, I believe no one could ever understand what I'm going through. I have been through this over and over again. Nothing works out well for me. Maybe my mom was right. Born as a werewolf who cannot shift, I was cast out of the pack on my eighteenth birthday when I couldn't transform into my wolf.

In the Azure Pack, it is a bad omen for a wolf not to shift when the time comes. There's a prophecy of the one who will bring doom to the world, and this person will neither be a werewolf nor a human. Someone like me is destined to bring bad luck to those who come near me. Even at that moment, Elena, who happens to be my only friend and roommate, had no idea that I had no wolf. I don't even smell like one, but I always make those around me believe that it was because I used the wolfless perfume, which most werewolves use to hide their identity.

I felt empty, like nothing was inside me. And not just that, I have been going through a series of disappointments. I'm twenty-five years old now, but I've got no mate, not even a regular boyfriend because they all ended up breaking up with me, both humans and werewolves alike.

It took me three years to finally get a stable job, after working on the streets, doing menial jobs. Now that I had finally found my way into a reporting firm, I couldn't get even a single interview. Not that I was lazy, I have been trying my best, but I guess the ill fate I possess will never let me shine, no matter how hard I try.

While in bed, I kept thinking about how to go about this exclusive interview. I must find a way out of this, if I really wish to keep my job.

Just as I was wallowing in my thoughts, I heard Elena let out a shriek-like scream.

I jolted up from my bed as Elena rushed into my room.

“Elena, stop shouting out of the blue for goddess’ sake!”

Here I am trying to clear my head and my overly loud roommate won't let me do so.

“Guess what?” Elena said as she scurried over to my bed in excitement.

“What now?” I asked lazily.

“I think I just found you a perfect opportunity to keep your job, though everything else will depend on you.”

“Huh?” I quickly leaned forward to hear more.

“Tell me about it?”

“Your crush from day one is about to hold a birthday celebration, and it's written here on the internet that it's going to be the most luxurious birthday party ever!”

“Wait a minute, don't get me confused. What crush are we talking about here?”

Elena rolled her eyes at once.

“Who else if not Drake Jordan!”

My heart skipped that very instant at the mention of his name.

“Drake is having a birthday party?”

“Oh yes, so baby girl, would you like to attend or not?”

I stared at Elena like she had suddenly gone insane.

“You think I'm in the mood to attend the birthday party of a crush right now, Elena?”

“Huh? But you've always liked him.”

“Listen, that was two years ago. What good will having a crush on a man I will never meet in my entire life be?”

“You aren't thinking in the way I am right now. Who is Drake?” Elena asked.

“He's the world's best actor and the ladies man, who has won so many Grammy Awards ever since he came into limelight. Do you have to ask me this, Elena?”

“You still don't get it. If he is such a prominent celebrity, what do you think you need to do?”

“To…do?” Just then, it clicked and I instantly went wide in shock.

“You mean I can attend the birthday party and have a chance of getting an interview from him?”

“Of course!” Elena exclaimed.

“Wow! That is so wonderful! Elena, are you really trying to help me or kill me?”

“Huh? Help you, of course.”

“Then have you no idea that his birthday party isn't a party someone like me could attend? You know I'm on my own and Mr. Jake isn't going to help me this time.”

“I know, but I just wanted to cheer you up. I mean, who knows, a miracle could happen, right?”

“Yes, a miracle could happen, but not for me.”

I wish I could tell Elena about the curse I bear. What she said was just too good to be true, and I'm sure I would mess things up if I were ever to try.

“You know what, let's forget about what happened today. Let's go to the club and drink away all our worries,” Elena suggested.

“What? A club? I'm not going.”
