Chapter 14
Susan dashed out of the barn, completely in the buff, like she was back to square one. With a shrill whistle that echoed through the air, she summoned every horse she owned. One more whistle, and the herd bolted from the pasture straight into the corral.
"Are all the doors wide open?" she hollered to Alan.
"Yep, wide open! Let 'em in," he confirmed.
Susan swung open the corral gate, and it seemed like the horses knew their queue. They trotted into the barn, each knowing exactly which stall was theirs. Alan followed behind, locking up the fence after the last one was inside.
As Susan strolled into the barn after the final horse, she grabbed a bag of apples and started chucking them at Alan. A few smacked him square on the mark.
"Hey! I thought the plan was just to get close, not bullseye me," Alan teased.
"I didn't even realize I was grinning. My bad for hitting you," Susan apologized.
