The next morning, Susan awoke with a pounding headache and the lingering memory of a disturbing dream. Alan hadn't shown up after the birth of their son; instead, her foolish cousin had taken his place. As she opened her eyes at 6:25 AM, a bloodcurdling scream escaped her lips, "Where is he? I'm going to kill him!"

Nurses rushed from all directions to assess the situation, setting off a cacophony of alarms as blood pressure readings spiked. Startled patients were jolted awake from their slumber, and chaos erupted in the telemetry area.

Callaway had just started her shift at 6 AM when she rushed to Susan's side to try and calm her down. Finding Susan attempting to yank out her IVs and leave her bed, Callaway gently pushed her back onto the pillow. "Susan, listen to me. You were on the brink of death yesterday. If you keep this up, you'll never see your son or Alan again."
