Chapter 334
Then he became rational. He grabbed his keys, wallet, and jacket, and flew out the front door, got into the car, and raced towards the hospital. 8 miles from his house, he received his first speeding ticket. He tried to explain to the officer that he was on his way to see a nurse in the hospital; it didn't work. He got his second ticket when he went through a stop sign 89A into the hospital parking lot. He tried the same excuse there, with the same result. He did not mind the tickets; he just wished the police officers could write faster.
When he got into the hospital lobby, he did not wait for the elevator. He ran up three flights of stairs to the telemetry floor to look for Callie. He nearly knocked her over as he exited the stairway.
She looked at him, because he had a wild-eyed stare, and asked him "What is wrong?"
He replied, "Everything; can you get someone to cover for you for 10 minutes. I need your undivided attention."
