Alexander tracked the movement with his eyes. “I have a theory about dessert preferences.”

“Oh?” I reached for my wine glass, needing something to do with my hands.

“They reveal a lot about a person’s... other preferences.” He selected another strawberry, dipping it in the whipped cream before offering it to me. “For instance, someone who enjoys rich, decadent chocolate probably enjoys other intense sensations.”

I accepted the strawberry, letting my lips close around his fingers longer than necessary. “And what about someone who prefers fruit?”

“They value the natural, the authentic.” His voice dropped lower. “They want experiences that feel real, not manufactured.”

“And whipped cream?” I asked, watching as he gathered some on his finger.

“That’s for people who enjoy...” He traced my bottom lip with the cream. “The extra touch. The unnecessary but delightful addition that elevates the experience.”
