I shifted in my seat, trying to focus on the passing buildings instead of Alexander’s presence beside me. The usual bustling streets of Manhattan gave way to quieter roads, trees replacing skyscrapers.
“This doesn’t look like the way to that Italian restaurant,” I noted, recognizing we’d ventured into a more secluded area.
His lips curved into that knowing smirk. “Observant as always, Ms. Harper.”
The car slowed, turning onto a private drive sheltered by tall oaks. He parked in a spot hidden from the main road, killing the engine.
“Mr. Knight, I thought we were getting lunch.” I crossed my legs, aware of his gaze following the movement.
“Oh, we are.” He unbuckled his seatbelt, turning to face me. “But first, I want to sample something else that looks delicious.”
