Bal shrugged at Nelson, his indifference evident. "The Alpha told you she would pardon you if you brought her the two most wanted criminals of the Lemuel pack—Xavier De Ross and Aadita Terry. You did that, so I would assume she intends to honor that deal."

Bal's gaze then flicked toward me in the back of the police cruiser, and he sneered as though he relished the fact that I had overheard his words, before vanishing into the crowd.

Were Xavier and I really the most wanted criminals in the entire pack? More pressing was the revelation that Nelson had made a deal with "the Alpha," but Bal had referred to the Alpha as "she." Did that mean my father was no longer the Alpha?
