I recognized that mastering the art of self-defense was crucial, particularly for those moments when a firearm might be out of reach or when my ammunition would be depleted. The ability to wield a knife would prove absolutely essential.
I hissed softly as she sucked in a breath through clenched teeth.
"I'm sorry, love," Xavier murmured, settling beside me on the bed as he delicately cleaned the cut I received from Connor when my reflexes hadn't been quick enough.
At least it wasn't very deep, but I was aware that it would require the night and some time to heal sufficiently, so I could move without pain.
"No, the disinfectant just stung more than I anticipated," I replied, chuckling quietly to myself.
