Chapter 72. Paid For

Mae’s POV

Eli inches closer to me on the bed. His claws extend from his fingertips, and he slides them across my comforter. The fabric rips open easily under his touch. He reaches out a single claw, trying to run it down my shirt, but I slap his hand away.

“I said don’t touch me.” I try to sound as menacing as I can, but the evil smile on Eli’s face doesn’t drop.

“I would like to see what I have paid for,” Eli snarls.

“Paid for?” I gasp. “What do you mean?”

“Oops,” Eli whispers as he runs his claws down the front of my shirt. “Did I say paid for? That was supposed to be a secret.”

I back away from Eli, and my shirt falls open. I quickly wrap my arms around myself, trying to hide my chest from him. But a rumble purrs from Eli’s chest. He has seen all that he needs to.

His green eyes turn black, and he growls crazily. He lunges for me, and I scream loudly. I kick my foot and smash him in the face. Eli grabs his nose as he tries to stop
