Xerxes's POV
The tears spilled down her face, covering her cheeks with wetness.
“I was a fool to even think I would ever mean something more than a body to warm your bed.” She choked out, tugging on her wrist.
“You’re more than that,” I said refusing to let go. Tears flow harder, and I felt his shaking intensifying.
“I might be the one to kill your brother, but don’t you want to punish the man who was responsible for this? The one who made me kill your brother?”
She was crying now, pounding on my chest, sobbing and I wrapped my arms around her, holding her as her dam finally cracked and heart-wrenching sobs escaped her. I soothed her. Comforted her.
We stayed like that for a long moment before I asked. “Did you overhear us?”
A shiver ran down her spine and I know I was right. She did eavesdrop. I tried to remember the conversation and surely none of it was pleasant. The attack was mentioned.
