Chapter 29
“Who’s there?” she demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.
“Gods be damned, it’s cold in your room.” Tristan’s voice came floating out of the darkness and she let her breath out in a harsh rush. She could hear the rustle of clothing and then Tristan was pulling back the bedcovers, letting the cold air rush in.
She gasped as her body broke out in goose bumps. “What are you doing?”
“Getting into bed before I freeze to death,” he grumbled. He shoved her over until she and the rock were pressed against the wall. “Gods, girl, your bed is small.”
“It’s meant for one person,” she said pointedly as he pressed his naked body against her back and wrapped his arm around her waist.
His hand brushed against the flannel-covered rock and he touched it curiously. “Why do you have a rock in your bed?”
She started to giggle as he picked up the rock and dropped it onto the floor behind him. It hit the floor with a loud thud, and she smacked his arm.
