Chapter 116
I wet my lips with my tongue.
“I went to look for you in the penthouse.”
“How curious,” he says softly. “I came to look for you here.”
He moves to the chair by the door. My robe lies there, and he picks it up and hands it to me. That simple, courteous gesture terrifies me.
My breath hitches, and a cry escapes me. I cover myself with the robe but don’t put it on.
“Marcus… I’m… I’m sorry.” I try to read his expression, but I can’t. “Did I ruin everything by leaving you? I don’t want to lose you and Ronnie because I was afraid.”
“Were you?” His voice is quiet. “Are you not anymore?”
I drop my gaze.
I don’t answer right away. I still feel it—the fear. But it’s fear of what could happen, and I don’t want to live like that. I’m terrified of screwing up, but I’d rather risk failing with you than not even try. I lift my head and meet his eyes.
“I love you, Marcus. And it scares the hell out of me that I’ve lost you.”
