Chapter 79
It had been a few days since I started my medication. The pills sat in a small white bottle on my bedside table, a reminder I couldn’t ignore even if I wanted to. I still forgot things sometimes, where I left my phone, what I had gone upstairs to get, but Benjamin always caught it before it slipped too far. He never scolded me, never let his voice show frustration. He just reminded me softly, like it was the most natural thing in the world.
Today felt heavier than the other days, though. It wasn’t only about me. Today was Daisy’s first day of school. Benjamin had enrolled her in a school not too far from the house, and she had been counting the days like it was Christmas coming.
