Chapter 89. Sneaking Close
Author’s POV
The dimly lit corridor stretched endlessly around them and was wrapped in an eerie silence that felt almost unnatural.
Only the distant murmur of voices from the lower floors of the estate broke through the stillness.
Golden wall sconces illuminated the hallway in soft pools of light, casting long shadows across the expensive carpets and ornate paintings lining the walls.
Every portrait seemed to watch from the darkness, turning the corridor into something unsettling rather than elegant.
Adeline stood frozen.
Her heartbeat hammered against her ribs as she stared at the man standing before her.
Luciano.
The last person she had expected to find here.
His dark gaze remained fixed on her, unwavering and intense.
There was no surprise in his expression.
No confusion.
Only a sharp calculation that immediately put her on edge.
“What are you doing here?”
His voice was low.
Controlled.
