I did not have to convince Colt to stay back. 

As the bedroom door shut behind me, he turned around and said, “We’ll wait the next couple of days to see if the cops catch this man.” 

“Or woman.” I stared into his eyes, a reflection of the fireplace behind me dancing in them. In this light, they looked completely white. White on white eyes with just a tiny dot of black at the very middle, like a full stop.

“Not tonight, Olivia.” The wind humed faintly outside the window, weaving through the eaves. “Only a man would do such a sick thing.” He said, looking like he was about to throw up as he tugged his gloves off.
