Chapter 40. Distance Between Us

He came to a stop in front of her with Delia trailing behind. She laid the steaming platter in her hands on the tiny table beside her bed, grabbed the empty water jug, and with a hasty curtsy, she excused herself from the room.

"Eat," He instructed. His eyes were mistrustful, searching for something she did not know as pulled the chair by the table and lowered himself onto it.

"Where is Nezetta?" She asked, ignoring his command though she could feel her mouth watering at the thought of sinking her teeth into the perfectly roasted slab of meat.

"I should be the one asking the questions here, Nerina."

"You can ask all the questions you want after you tell me where she is," She fired, unrelenting.

"Eat something first. There is a brutal war going on in your stomach, I am certain."
