Brandon took a slow breath. “We split up.”
Lucas’s eyes narrowed. “What?”
“I’ll give myself up.”
“No.” Hannah’s voice was sharp, cutting through the air like a blade. She grabbed his arm. “No, Brandon, don’t even—”
“It’s the only way,” he said, turning to her. “Bernardo wants me. He’s always wanted me. If I let them take me, it buys you time to get Jessica to the hospital. It’s the only way she survives this.”
Hannah shook her head violently, her wet hair clinging to her cheeks. “No. We can fight our way out.”
Brandon cupped her face, his touch gentle despite the storm raging inside him. “We can’t,” he whispered. “Not this time.”
