Chapter 29

Stella

"Stella?" Gabriel asks as he opens the back door. I smile at him slowly, unsure of whether to give a clear answer or if I should respond at all. I know he wasn't expecting to see me here, and even I didn't expect to be here, but when Daniel invited me, I saw an opportunity to see him again, to talk to him in person and not just through messages. I wanted to spend time here, with him, with his brother, and be in their environment. I've always thought they were the type of people who make a scene frequently, who laugh at everything and shout until they're tired, but today they seem serious and distant.

"I invited her," he responds calmly, looking at his brother. "I thought it would be a good idea."

Both brothers look at each other for a brief moment and I can sense the tension between them. I know they have problems regularly, but Daniel doesn't seem like a bad person. Gabriel finishes getting into the car and puts on his sunglasses. The road
