The moment I can no longer feel his presence, when I’m absolutely sure he’s gone, I turn around and fall to the ground. My knees hit the cold earth, and a sob rips from my throat before I can stop it. The tears come fast, blurring my vision as my hands clutch at the dirt beneath me. He’s gone. “Aria… Aria, are you alright?” Mark’s voice is soft, concerned. He crouches beside me, placing a steadying hand on my shoulder.
I shake my head quickly, my hair falling in front of my face as I let out a shaky breath. “No. I’m not alright. My heart feels like it’s breaking into a thousand pieces. I want to run after him, Mark. I want to hold him and tell him I didn’t mean it. I didn’t mean to fucking hurt him. I only did what I thought was best for him.”
