By the time I'm done removing my clothes, Jack arrives with an upset face, like someone who has just been made unhappy. I stare at him with wide shock. I walk towards him with the aim of consoling him. I drape my hand round his shoulders, looking straight and deep into his eyes.
"Sweetheart, what's going on?" I've not been used to calling him sweet names but I can't help at this point. I'm looking for anything to do which will make him happy, something which will ease his pains. I'm sure it's still because of Jeff's case.
"What did mom ask you that's making you so emotional?" I ask in a calm and polite voice. He looks my way, his eyes fall on mine and I give him a sort of warm smile.
