Calla stared at the figure sleeping peacefully beside her. A low exhale slipped from her lips as she remembered how Rico had broken down in her arms earlier. He really was in pain. Seeing him like that made her wish she could somehow take that weight off his shoulders, even if only a little.
She wished she could erase the guilt he carried, the memories that kept dragging him back to that night. But she knew some wounds didn’t disappear so easily. Some stayed, buried deep, shaping a person in ways no one else could truly understand.
Still, as she watched his sleeping face, she quietly promised herself one thing. If she couldn’t take the pain away… then she would at least be there when it came back.
