When Quetzalli finally let go, the kitsune’s hair was a chaotic mess, standing on end in several places, and the fur on her tails had poofed out in a fluffed-up halo. Yuki’s ears twitched and her sharp amber eyes narrowed, a mixture of surprise, disgust, and mild irritation flickering across her face.
“Hey,” Mike said, stepping closer with an easy grin, “since you’re here anyway, I need your help with something.” He ran his hands carefully through the tangles in her hair, pausing to rub the spot between her ears. A faint static crackled, and Yuki’s hair fell back into place, smooth and glossy. “Can you hold these for me? I’ll let you know when I need them.”
Yuki looked down at the horseshoes in her hands, her claws lightly gripping the cold metal. “What exactly are we doing?” she asked, suspicion mixed with curiosity in her tone.
