Ken struggled to stand, coughing violently, and spat out a mouthful of blood. My heart skipped a beat. Eric must have hit him hard but somehow, he forced himself upright. He dropped to one knee, bowing his head low. “Alpha… this is my fault. I take full responsibility,” he muttered, his voice rough.

Eric’s jaw tightened. “If anything had happened to Elena today, not even your life could fix it.”

Ken lowered his head further. “Please… give me one last chance to protect her. I’ll do everything right this time. I swear, I’m still the best person for this job.” The auditorium was deathly quiet. The tension made it hard to breathe.
