“He’s going to be fine,” she told the doctor, her voice unwavering. “He’s strong. He’s going to get through this.”
Dr. Shahid smiled, a hint of warmth in his eyes. “With you by his side, I don’t doubt it.”
As the days turned into weeks, Moosa’s strength began to return. The ventilator was removed, and he started to breathe on his own. His muscles, weakened by the prolonged immobility, began to regain their strength through physical therapy. And through it all, Roshanay was there, holding his hand, encouraging him, loving him.
One evening, as they sat together in his hospital room, Moosa reached for her hand. His grip was still weak, but it was steady, and she could feel the warmth of his skin against hers.
“I’ve been thinking,” he said, his voice low. “About everything that happened. About how close we came to losing each other.”
Roshanay’s heart clenched, and she squeezed his hand. “Don’t think about that. We’re together now. That’s all that matters.”<
