Chapter 227. Lack of Trust
His eyes stared into hers; he was left bewildered. It was the first time in his life he was this confused. Words refused to come out of his mouth. Her words hit him straight in the heart, ripping it to shreds. They played with the strings of his heart, making him feel absolutely constricted. The walls of his chest felt like they were tightening around his heart. He couldn't decipher what that feeling was. But the way she uttered those words imparted a deep effect on him—a painful one.
It felt like someone had probed his heart with a knife. Or like someone was jabbing a dagger straight through his heart.
Wasn't this what he wanted?
He got it, but he couldn't get the peace. Rather, he grew more restless.
He observed the emotions floating in her brown eyes.
Fear.
Anticipation.
Anxiety.
Lack of trust.
