Chapter 21. We Are Screwed
Rae:
The drive stretches on, long and silent.
Me and Eliza — we don’t ask where we’re being taken.
We don’t dare.
We just sit there, side by side, guns resting forgotten on our laps, stealing glances at S and Kieran in the front.
Or, well...
S stealing glances at me.
More like staring.
Bold.
Unapologetic.
He’s not even trying to hide it.
I shift in my seat, pretending not to notice the burn of his gaze tracing my profile.
But Kieran notices.
And so does Eliza.
A soft snort comes from the front.
Then Kieran chuckles.
Then Eliza leans into me, stage-whispering loud enough for the whole car to hear, "You gonna tell me if I should start knitting baby clothes now or later?"
I whip my head to her, face heating up.
"Shut up," I hiss, slapping her arm.
Eliza just grins, unbothered.
She stretches her legs, sighing dramatically.
