To me, it looked as if Greg wanted to sink through the floor and disappear. Karen was right though. Greg would have welcomed a black lover for his wife, and a black child. Perhaps he thought he could survive the onslaught of questions after a biracial child was born. It would already be a fait accompli. Nothing to be done about it but grin and bear it. It couldn't be some lame story about how his wife stepped out on him and he's forgiven her, and after all, it isn't the child's fault, so he'll love it anyway.
