Chapter 147. Slipping Over the Edge
Zayne’s POV
I was about to pick up my phone and call Jeremy when the door eased open and Chris stepped back into the ward. My fingers tightened around the phone for a second before I forced them to relax. I lifted my head and gave a controlled smile, pretending my thoughts hadn’t just been dragged in a direction I didn’t want him anywhere near.
He stopped by the foot of the bed, studying me with that familiar look of concern.
“You good?” he asked. “You look like you just got whipped mentally.” Oh Chris, you had no idea how whipped I had just gotten.
“I’m fine,” I lied, steadying my voice. “Much better, actually.”
He nodded but didn’t fully look convinced. He let his eyes wander to the empty chair where Dr. Smith had been sitting minutes ago.
“You don’t need any of that shitty therapy anyway,” he muttered, waving a dismissive hand. “Those people don’t solve shit. They just make everything worse.”
