Apphia’s POV

“Thank you for seeing me, Director Bass,” I say, keeping my head high and looking them in the eye as I speak.

“Anytime. Would you like anything to drink?”

“No, thank you,”

He gestures for me to sit on the couch; they all face me.

“I’m here to discuss the wildfire relief funds,” I start before I finish my sentence, I’m interrupted by Avril James.

“That was discussed already, and help was offered. The matter was closed, Miss Apphia. We can’t do more,” she says. Her tone is sharp but smooth. The two males glance at her, surprised.

“You cut our budget by more than half. That’s not nearly enough to help the victims rebuild their homes,” I retort, my voice calm but clear.

“More than half?” Director Bass asks, looking at his son. He glances at Avril James and lowers his head a little in shame. I know it was her idea to do that. Maximus was right. She doesn’t like me and would do anything to get in my way.
