Chapter 13. Attack
Being shocked was an understatement. Leila remained in her living room, plopped down on the cold floor. The fast beating of her heart was like drumming near her ears – the only thing to which she could listen amidst the silence of the night. She was thinking of what to do next. Or it was rather – she couldn’t think of anything to do next, which was the exact thing that would surely define her thoughts.
“Is it true? Or am I just dreaming? Hallucinating?” She murmured before she slightly slapped her face with her hands. It stung a bit as she bit her lower lip firmly.
‘It’s true…’ Her thoughts lingered as she felt like a candle slowly being melted by fire. She slowly laid her back on the floor – ignoring the coldness of it. She tried to pinch herself as if she wanted to convince herself that she might be wrong – or was hoping to be wrong. How could it possibly be… right? But it hurt – telling her that everything she saw wasn’t just a pigment of her imagination.
