“But I met Lola this night… or was it last night. She had—”
“STOP!” I burst out, louder than intended, causing Cadell to flinch in surprise.
His brows shot up. “Whoa. Okay. What was that for?”
“I don’t want to hear about your dates and how big their body parts were,” I snapped, crossing my arms. “It makes me… it makes me—”
“Jealous?” he asked smoothly, leaning in with that annoying, smug grin spreading across his face.
Dimming my eyes into a glare, I said, “No. It makes me want to punch you in the face.”
I launched a hand at him, intending to give his shoulder a good smack, but he dodged easily, laughing like a child who just got away with stealing cookies.
His laugh was infectious, though. His goofy cackle broke through my irritation, and despite myself, I started laughing too. But the moment was brief. As I looked at him—really looked—I remembered the nights he wasn’t around. The way I waited, the way I felt like something was
