Chapter 2
Sandhya’s POV
Two more intern doctors were assigned the duty to assist Dr Vikram Singh Rathore. We went to the cardiology department as he was a cardiologist. We looked for his cabin and the ward boy told us that he is in OT. He asked us to wait for him.
All three of us gave our introductions. There was a cute good looking man. Dr Chirag Patel. Another one was very handsome but serious, Dr Ajay Sharma.
We all became comfortable with each other. We were still talking about our college life, families, friends etc. I was trying to calm my mind which was unsettled since I came to know that I have to assist a doctor named Vikram Singh Rathore.
He can’t be same… This is such a big world. There would be at least a thousand people with the same name.
Stop being paranoid about it. He is not the same person. Dr Chirag was telling some very funny incidents of his college days. He must have been very mischievous. His eyes were shining while he was telling his stories.
We all were laughing aloud just like some small kindergarten kids.
“Where do you think you all are?” We all stopped laughing once we heard a strong masculine voice which interrupted us.
We all stood up. I felt as if a strict teacher just scolded the kids, I mean us. Two minutes ago this room was bursting with laughter and now there was a pin drop silence.
The owner of that strong voice entered the room and we all greeted him. The moment I saw him I froze.
Oh god! This is not done.
I hate you…
How can you do that to me?
Not possible, It was him.
What will I do? I am so stupid. I changed the chit with my classmate. I will request her to…
Nonsense. What would I tell her? And it has already been documented.
I am in the hot soup right now. I really hate this man. It is ok, I can handle it. I was still thinking about all this when I heard that voice again.
“… Are you in this room Ms.…? I have been talking to you and you are lost somewhere.” He was glaring at me.
“I am sorry sir.”
“You better be, you are not some silly students who fool around in their college. You all are in hospital.”
“Yes sir, we are sorry,” Chirag said and Dr Vikram glared at him.
“Now please take your seats.” He told us. We did so.
“I want you to know, that I don’t accept tardiness. You need to be on time. Have to follow your schedule. You will take your work very seriously. I want your daily reports. You will take your rounds and make notes and show them to me. Is that ok with all of you?”
“Yes sir.” We all said in unison.
We all gave our introductions. He introduced us to all the nurses, ward boys etc. He also gave us our duty timings, our schedule and exchanged our phone numbers.
I looked at him through my eyelashes and found that he looks much better in reality. He was approximately 6’ 2“ tall, dark, handsome, looked well built. In all, he was very attractive.
What? He is handsome? How can I say that? He is an arrogant, prejudiced, judgmental and insensitive person.
“… Miss Sandhya? Are you on the earth? Stop your mind from wandering around. I want your full attention here on me. Understand?”
I nodded.
He was glaring at me. I wanted to kill him. Just then there was a knock on the door, a beautiful female Doctor entered the room. She smiled at him and he returned the smile.
“Hey Vikram, are you free now? It is lunchtime. Let’s go, I am famished.” She said.
“Hi Aditi, I am not free yet. And I need to talk to Gautam. So I am going to have lunch with him. Sorry, some other time.” He said to her.
“Ok, but I can also join both of you.”
“No, that won’t be possible, we need some privacy.” He said. That doctor looked very disappointed. She just nodded and left.
“So you all may leave, just meet me here after about an hour. Don’t be late.” He said that looking at me. I was getting annoyed with him. Everyone nodded. We all came outside and went to the cafeteria. Other interns were also there. I saw Pooja and Ruchika sitting on a table, I joined them.
They were sharing their experiences of the day. But I couldn’t utter a word. I was so irritated with the fact that of all the people in the world, I had to assist him.
I didn’t want to be in a room with him for even a single minute and I have to spend at least 1 month with him as his assistant.
Oh God! Bhagwanji (almighty God) you know, you are very cruel. I hate you. You know how I feel about him. So why are you throwing him at me?
“What’s wrong with you? You have been frowning and muttering incoherent words. Are you all right? How was your day?” Ruchika was saying while waving a hand in front of my eyes.
“Hmmm I am fine, It is just not one of my days.”
“But there are so many good looking doctors here. It is definitely one of my days.” Ruchika said.
“Those intern doctors are looking at us. Do you know them?” Pooja said in a low voice. I turned to look at them.
“Oh yes, they are assisting the same doctor like me.” I waved them and they waved back. They started coming our way.
“Oh, they both are very handsome,” Ruchika whispered near my ear and I just nodded.
They came and asked, “Can we share your table?”
“Sure, why not?” I introduce them all to each other and then we started having our lunch, but my appetite was already gone after meeting our senior doctor.
“Why are you not eating? You can’t waste food. As it is, everything you make is simply awesome.” Pooja said.
“Somehow, I am not hungry. And this has been prepared by Bua Ji. You can have it if you want, anybody can take it I don’t want to eat right now.”
Pooja took a spoonful of Poha and tasted it. She just loved it. She passed my lunch box to everyone and they all loved it. We all decided to drop formalities and call each other with the names.
“What’s wrong with you? You are behaving differently?” Ruchika asked again, I just shook my head.
“Is it because Dr Vikram Singh Rathore scolded you? let it be yaar, doesn’t matter. He is our senior, it’s ok. Don’t take it to your heart.” Chirag said.
“I don’t care what he says. I am not affected by his words. He can think, whatever he wants. It is not going to change, what I am. As it is, he is an arrogant, prejudiced, judgmental person.” I thought I was just thinking that but apparently, I was thinking aloud. They all were looking at me with their eyes wide open.
Oh god! What is happening to me? I should not let anyone know, what I think about him. The lunchtime would be over, in 5 minutes. So I told Chirag and Ajay to come along me to the lion’s den. Or he may eat us alive.
We reached his cabin and waited for him to come. He came exactly 2 minutes before the lunchtime was over.
