"What happened?" Dorian asked the moment I got inside the car, my eyes glistening with tears as I attempted to swallow the lump in my throat. I had sworn not to let Nicholas affect me to the point of expelling any tears, but that seemed to be crumpling at that moment. "Nothing; I didn't see him; I was told he was in a meeting," I lied, covering a sniff with a cough. My chest felt like it was being clawed from the inside, making me press my teeth together and swallow the pain.
