During dinner, both Lillian Doyle and Vera Taylor stayed unusually quiet, just eating in silence.

Richard Taylor had a heavy look on his face, clearly hesitating over something. He didn’t speak until halfway through the meal. “Cassandra, we received a court summons today. Mr. Blackwood’s suit against Lillian is scheduled to go to trial next Monday.”
