The host sensed the atmosphere getting a little stiff, so he chuckled and said, “Haha, maybe Miss Taylor’s feeling a bit nervous. How about a round of applause to boost her confidence?”

As soon as he said that, thunderous applause erupted from the audience.

Richard quickly realized that something was off. He rushed over, pulling Lillian aside with a frown. “What happened? Weren’t you supposed to keep an eye on her?”

“I have no idea either,” she replied, pretending to be anxious.

But deep down, Lillian was sneering: A violin genius? Please. The place is packed with political and business elites—she could already picture the disaster Cassandra was about to cause.

Cassandra glanced around and caught a glimpse of the smug, scheming smirk on Vera’s face and the barely hidden glee on Lillian’s. That’s when the pieces clicked together in her mind.

So that’s why Vera kept hyping her up in front of Ms. Walker earlier— calling her some violin prodigy.
