"Yes..." Shawn looked at Sarah and then chuckled again. "Isn't it crazy that the first and last time I ever fell in love was in college? I was a fool then and now. I thought my feelings would be reciprocated. No. I was just shown how dumb and stupid I had been all along when the so-called person I was in love with was found making out with my best friend and now getting married."

As the dinner progressed, emotions swirled beneath the surface, threatening to spill over. Shawn's heart pounded in his chest, craving a level of intimacy he knew he could never have. He had spent countless nights wishing for a different reality, a world where Ivan could be his. But it was far from reality, watching the two couples sitting right across from him.

They looked so perfect that it hurt. It hurt him to truthfully acknowledge it.
