Chapter 30
Obviously, they’d still hate her, but being chased out of her father’s place didn’t sit well with Mitchell. It’d been a while since the discomfort of the city bus washed over her like this; people smelling of cigarettes and perspiration pressed up against each other.
The random stopping to let passengers off was almost nostalgic.
She didn’t take it back to work. All Mitchell wanted now was some quiet if she could not get the peace that accompanied it.
The manor-like mansion sat as quiet as it should be during the day, its old bones stronger than chewing gum after it’s been visited by cold water. Mitchell’s steps grew quieter as she pulled off her shoes right at the entrance. Her feet hurt from all the stomping around. She sought her way …or was at least trying to when hushes escaped up the hallway.
