Chapter 35
I nodded immediately, so distracted that I didn't even remember why I was in church, to begin with. So, I heard the sounds of footsteps echoing and the group of nuns were leaving the altar and heading to the back of the church, far from the entrance where I knew the heavenly sister would be. And that seemed to wake me up. I turned again to Annelise, after meticulously studying the entrance behind the top. I didn't want anyone to surprise me with their hands dirty. And even without magic, I had to be careful. The idea of ending up in jail once again didn't attract me.
"I promise I'll look for you at the movies, Anne," I said goodbye.
Annelise understood the cue, and picked up her purse on the bench as she waved and left through one of the side doors.
