Chapter 14
Several days later, when Gilbert returned home from Nelson's place, Mrs Rose knocked on his door with a letter for him. Gilbert thanked her and opened the letter to find out, with delight, that it was from his uncle.
Dearest young Gilbert,
It has been a long time! Your father wrote to me and said that you wanted to see me. I live with a friend in a town to the East of London. Perhaps we can meet somewhere in the middle. I hope you are keeping well and that your architecture career is taking off. Things here are good with my books. I will tell you about everything when we meet. It has been many years, and it will be good to see what a fine man you have grown up to become.
