Kai’s POV

She hadn’t moved in over an hour.

Not even a twitch.

I stood near the window, arms crossed, eyes locked on her still figure as the storm inside me brewed heavier than the clouds outside. The kids had fallen asleep again, one on each side of her, their small hands curled against her arms like they were trying to keep her tethered to the world.

I couldn’t stop staring.

Because if I stopped staring... I might have to admit how scared I actually was.
