I didn’t press the issue, instead letting my eyes wander across the various camera angles. Jess was with Johnny Burris, which hardly was a surprise. I didn’t see Kat and Rita in any of the main rooms, so I switched to the bedrooms.

And there they were, in the bedroom that formerly served as the dungeon, with the door closed. A wave of ambivalence washed over me. This was the same space where, only a year ago, David Johnson had defiled and abused Kat so frequently and to her delight. I had to close my eyes and take a deep breath. It helped recenter me.
