Chapter 117

Dahlia opened her eyes to find herself in the hospital, not as a nurse now, but a patient. She laughed at herself when she noticed Elio standing by the window and looking out. She had figured it was something he always does to keep his mind in check.

The events of the previous night flashed through her mind quickly. She remembered seeing Elio barge through the gates of the camp of Jose and his men, she remembered how gracious and charming he looked but she also noticed his deadly stares and she could recall that she cringed at that sight because she had never seen him that way. She remembered the deafening sounds of gunshots that were pretty close to rendering her ears useless. She remembered seeing someone who looked so much like Elio, sliding in between Elio and Jose, taking the shot Jose had aimed for Elio. She recalled how Elio had shot at Jose severally like he was never going to stop till she screamed out in horror.
