Chapter 31
Riley’s POV
My wolf’s teeth closed gently around Noah’s wrist. I swear I saw his jaw clench like he was cranking up a vice, but his eyes never left mine—well, mine as a wolf’s—watching me with that fierce intensity of his. I wasn’t trying to maul him the way I’d nearly mauled that poor student on campus. This was more like a curious puppy investigating a new chew toy: tentative bites, more investigation than aggression.
When I withdrew, I gave his wrist a careful, furry lap. The blood was fresh, but already the bite-mark was knitting itself closed—wolves got over injuries fast when you had magic blood pumping through your veins. Noah wound his other hand into my fur and dragged me flush against his chest. My tail gave a triumphant wag. He murmured, hoarse with relief, “Thank you. I feel lucky you chose me as your mate.”
My wolf-self promptly licked the corner of his mouth—sort of a wolf grin of pride—while he scratched behind my ears in that dumbly happy way
