Chapter 117

Nora POV

I woke up to Kai’s phone buzzing non-stop on the nightstand.

He was already awake, sitting at the cabin’s small desk with his laptop open, his face illuminated by the blue glow of the screen. Dark circles under his eyes. Hair disheveled. He hadn’t slept.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, my hand instinctively going to my stomach. Still flat. Still showing no signs of the bomb ticking inside me.

“Darren gave an interview this morning.” Kai’s voice was flat. Defeated. “And posted a public statement.”

He turned the laptop so I could see. There was Darren on Good Morning America, looking devastated and hopeful and perfect. The devoted husband. The forgiving man. The father-to-be who just wanted his family back.

“No,” I whispered, reading the on-screen caption: “Darren Blake Opens Up About Wife’s Pregnancy: ‘I Forgive Her. I Want Us to Be a Family.’”

“Watch,” Kai said quietly.

I did. I watched Darren speak about love and forgiveness.
