Miranda’s baleful laugh filled the whole place.

Caden’s body went rigid in tension as we waited for what Miranda would do next. The old man still had a tight grip on the chains, and Gretta was too weak; she fell to her knees.

Something in my throat choked me after I gasped. Goddess, I couldn’t watch my sister being tortured! [Caden! We can’t wait any longer! Gretta is hurting!]

But Caden stayed focused; his eyes were sharp, glaring at Miranda and his whole pack of sentinels. I wished I knew what was going on in his mind, but as an Alpha, Caden had the ability to shut his mind off from me and the others.
