The ride home felt endless. Through every turns, every stop light, the memories replayed in my head.

Vanessa’s voice, her laughter, the small moments we shared together, her tears the day I was taken away.

The home I’d left behind.

Everything I’d almost lost.

When the car finally parked, my pulse hammered like a drum. I didn't know how I would react after seeing her in such a long time, but I knew my heart still yearned and called out to her.

The door opened before I even reached for the knob.
