Chapter 27

Evelyn woke up to the morning sunshine streaming into her room. Last night had been different. She couldn’t put a finger on it but the way Roman had held her, the way he had kissed her... it hadn’t felt as detached as it had been since the day she had walked out on him.

Maybe he was making an effort to keep her here. Maybe he really wanted to give it a go. He knew how she felt about him but he was still willing to change things just for her. He’d given her an out in the contract to make her feel differently about her situation like maybe he did care how she felt.

She tried to smother the flutter of hope in her chest but failed. A smile formed on her face as she yawned and stretched, and then she froze when she bumped into the warm, hard body next to her.

She sucked in a breath when she looked up and met the dark blue gaze.

He was still here.

The sun was shining and he was still in her bed.

“Morning,” he said.

His voice was husky from sleep.
